Employment Readiness to recruitment

This event has been created, in conjunction CLAC and the Career Foundations, to assist potential skilled-trades candidates with the resources they require for successful employment in the trades.

Mandatory prerequisite:

YOU MUST provide us with proof that you have completed the Worker's Health and Safety Training. A field is provided in the registration that will ask you to upload your completed certificate. If you have not done it, instructions are below.  

  1. This training is simple and free.Visit the Ontario Ministry of Labour website at: https://www.labour.gov.on.ca/english/hs/training/workers.php
  2. Scroll down to eLearning at the bottom of the page; it takes 45-60 minutes to complete
  3. If you prefer, you can print a paper workbook from this page and complete it. If you use the workbook, please sign and date the cover and upload that file

MORNING 

  • 8:00 a.m. - Welcome from SOY
  • 8:30 a.m. - Tool rodeo 
  • 9:00 a.m. - Mock interviews and resume review begin (by appointment only, please register below)
  • 10:00 a.m. - Safety Training with CLAC – pick one to register for
    • General introduction (beginner) – what to expect when you enter the trades (PPE, how to maintain, how do you know when it’s time to upgrade, how to engage with supervisor about work practices, principles about equipment and how to use it or ask supervisor, how to talk to employers about safety practices).
    • Safety orientation (enhanced) – CLAC will provide a more in-depth safety orientation of work site and provide attendees an online safety training session, to be taken on another day. 
  • 11:00 a.m. - Networking
  • 11:30 a.m. - Event ends – please feel free to stick around for the panel Q&A
